I was looking into the property segregation in Seattle topic that we discussed in class the other day because I found it interesting that I grew up thinking Seattle supported integration since its beginning, but we found out in class that property owners had written bylaws that restricted African Americans from living in certain homes. The graphs were interesting to see the growth of the African American community in Seattle and to notice how it followed a distinct trend over the years. I found an article that depicts the segregation in Seattle discovered through the UW research, but it also explains that these student researchers additionally determined that in Seattle's most historically diverse districts, there is the same instances of segregation between African Americans and white people. Even on a microscopic scale, racial segregation exists in locations within particular districts, within the city of Seattle. This got me thinking about the causes of this and the reasoning behind why this is still happening today. This article definitely verifies that even a strongly liberal city can still have major integration issues that still need to be addressed to this day.
