Gentrification

Well my brothers and my sisters, gentrification continues its destructive path across the nation destroying Black communities buy raising property taxes to an already strained and stressful financial community. Due to the raising of property taxes not only will families be forced to relocate to other areas of the city, the impact will significantly affect local business owners, primarily African American owned forcing them to either relocate or permanently close. Bishop Montgomery a prominent pastor emeritus of Tacoma, words were echoed by Towery saying not to focus on gentrification rather on centrification, and by council woman Woodards. Centrification is a good ideal for the City of Tacoma, along with the AAFC initiative grant to help some of the residence remain in their homes by employing them to help destroy their own communities in the name of progress. I am saddened with the small amount of the grant awarded to the city. Are the powers to be genuinely concerned about our community? The only citizens of the City of Tacoma that gentrification will have a negative impact is as always the African American Community.

I also realize, no matter how many initiatives, grants, polices we construct to save our African American communities in our nation, when the powerful developers, city, county, state and federal government agree to proceed in the name of growth and progress God himself will not be able to help save our communities. Historically, Tacoma is more progressive concerning civil right issues; just maybe with all of our efforts working together we can save Hill Top with centrification being an example for the rest of the nation to follow.
