The documentary “Transforming Tacoma” was an example of how
many people live, fight and work hard to make America better. Racism is all
over the country. Yet today we still see lots of it. Back in the 20th
century after the north had abolish slavery we still saw segregation happing.
Whites not wanting to be close to any African Americans. Nor they wanted them
to be next door as the video mentions it. In the documentary there was also an example
of a man saying that he was in his uniform while they told him something, he
says “I came home, here to the United States the country I am fighting for and
get tried like this. I kill Koreas and they don’t discriminate me”. These kind
of acts is what brings people of color down. All of their Education and Economy
gets affected by all these acts. It was hard for them to get a job simply
because of their color. A man took about 6 months to find a job and when he did
it was a minimum wage job. Living in the north was “Different and the same”.
After Laws where pass, whites would find ways to keep them away. It was hard
for African Americans to find a home, go out to eat in a restaurant, and fight
for rights. African Americans put 3 demands in the city of Tacoma. All they wanted
was to change things in America.
